Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

We've just enjoyed a happy week by the seaside in Blackpool.

We are lucky enough to have friends who lend us their flat there, which is right on the sea front. Being a mile or so north of the Tower, it boasts huge amounts of golden sandy beach that is blissfully quiet. And very beautiful. When the sun shines it is a glorious place to be. And, when it's blowing a gale and raining cats and dogs, it is still a good place to be. Provided you've all got plenty of waterproofs, that is.

Being by the sea always refreshes me, but never more so than when tired from a few weeks of living the feed sleep feed sleep routine of a newborn.  The sun shone on most of the days we were there, meaning an easy existence of peering out of the window of the flat to check where the tide was before pulling on shoes and heading out. Tide in meant scooters and whizzing along the promenade. Tide out meant buckets and spades and building dams and hunting for crabs and jellyfish.

Either way, the sea air seemed to work wonders for the wailing baby in the pram, and she tended to fall asleep within minutes of being out. A big hurrah.

For me, my favourite thing to do when by the sea is to simply stare at it. Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.

A tribute to Blackpool's proud entertainment heritage, the Comedy Carpet in front of the Tower is most definitely the best new thing about the sea front, and the girls think so too, as it is perfect for scooting apparently.
I even succumbed and bought a tea towel (the kind of thing my Nan would have done) as a souvenir and reminder of summer when it's grey outside in November.

The middle girl made her own version. "Where do cows like to go on holiday?" "Moo York!"
Holiday target of ice creams every day being fulfilled.

Bye bye seaside!
