The Ric Rac Skirt is Back!

Last night I made a second Kelly Skirt. With more jumbo ric rac!

This time, the skirt is a birthday present for a friend of mine. We'd been shopping in John Lewis back in the autumn, where we'd spotted this purple corduroy. The colour suits my friend down to the ground, and as soon as we saw it, I suggested the idea of a skirt for her out of it.

Knowing not everyone necessarily shares my passion for ric rac, I checked this detail with her first. Was she ready to take a leap into the world of wearing ric rac as a grown up, I wondered?

She sounded positive, and was game enough to trust my judgement. I hope she likes it!

I will definitely be making myself another Kelly skirt before too long, as I have really enjoyed wearing the one I made for myself a few months ago. The shape is flattering, and I like the fact it has big pockets too - practical and great for keeping my hands warm on days I try and kid myself it isn't cold enough to wear a coat to pop out for the school run.

And as for the ric rac at the bottom - well, in my humble opinion, it is the best thing of all about the skirt. I smile every time I see it.

  1. oh my gosh! I LOVE ric rac and especially the giant kind. Do you get it from somewhere local or online?

That Kelly skirt certainly looks like a very flattering shape. I just wish I had your talent to make one myself xx

  2. Thanks! I'd recommend the Kelly pattern - by Megan Neilsen - it is definitely easy to follow and beginner friendly (am thinking of choosing it for my next clothing for grown ups course).
Good luck in making one! X

    1. Yes do choose it, then I can come on the course as using an actual pattern scares me!
