Dreaming up a polka dot frock

Potential dress in the making
One of my sewing new year's resolutions was to try out some new patterns for me to wear.

Realising it is February already, and not having done a lot of my own sewing yet this year, I was taken by Scruffy Badger's Polka Dot Frock Fest. This sounds like fun, and possibly just the thing to inspire me into a bit of selfish sewing again.

With a couple of big dos to go to in the spring/summer, I am thinking along the lines of something a bit fancy and treating myself to some posh fabric with a nice contrasting lining. My chosen colours are going to be navy and white polka dots, with a plan to wear some nice red accessories that I already have (thus alleviating the guilt of blowing a load of cash on silk for a dress).

And there lies the first stumbling block. Faced with two lovely looking fabrics that I like from here, I cannot decide which one to choose!

This classic looking version?
Or this fun twist on polka dots - but would it work on a dress?
What do you think? I am throwing this one open to the wisdom of the crowd - in this case, that means you, my lovely readers, in the hope you can help me decide.

A wild card - I love this summery tangerine colour, but probably not for me?
(I'm looking in your direction to be brutally honest, Sang)
PS. Two posts in a day after a fortnight of radio silence. Can you tell I am sitting on the sofa with a poorly littlest girl...?

  1. What pattern make and number is that? I've been looking for one like that for a while!

  2. I like the one with the different sizes. Hope your poorly one is soon on the mend.

  3. I think I am veering towards the one with different sizes, too. That was my gut anyway and now everyone I have asked says the same. It'll be the most expensive fabric I've bought, so was feeling nervous about buying it! :)
    The pattern is Burda 7630

  5. Sorry been a bit late visiting Janet! How are you getting on? I LOVE all of your fabric choices (of course - dotty!) And think that the pattern you've chosen is a great choice - should be very elegant. Keep us posted on you progress :-)
