Dolly Bag

Earlier this year, my favourite bag was nicked. Very annoying, not least because it was handmade, and therefore not easy to go out and replace. And, as it was a bit grubby, even more annoying was the thought that it probably ended up dumped somewhere soon after it was emptied of anything valuable.

Finally, I've managed to assemble the ingredients for a new one.

Probably my most favourite fabric... ever.
And, happily, I like it even more than the first.

I used this free tutorial from the brilliant Lisa Lam - if you haven't stumbled across her website before, go and have a look. She is a true bag making queen.

I made a couple of minor additions to the pattern - namely a handy key strap and a magnetic clip. But that's all. It is a great roomy bag - so much so that I have in the past managed to fit a travel potty, wipes and a change of clothes (for the potty user, not me, I hasten to add), as well as all the usual stuff you'd expect to find in a woman's hand bag.

No need to rummage around for my keys.
To the right of the Diet Coke is a plate of chips, smothered in salt and vinegar.
Almost forgot to put the magnetic snaps in before sewing up the bag.
Spot the obvious mistake.
I had forgotten how long hand stitching the leather handles takes.
Looking forward to slinging it over my shoulder and taking it out for the first time!
